The Sylvan Collection
The Sylvan lingerie collection (#KLVxSylvan) is a collaboration between independent designers Karolina Laskowska and Vanyanís, made in Norway by Karolina and released in November 2023 exclusively here on the Vanyanís website.
The Sylvan lingerie collection is inspired by our shared love of exquisite materials and passion for minimizing waste from the fashion industry. This fifteen piece collection features a stunning variety of ‘deadstock’ bridal lace that we dyed an enchanting shade of emerald green to form a cohesive, luxurious collection. Because there are several different lace designs within the ‘Sylvan’ collection we’ve named the individual pieces based on the lace used (which you will find in the product listings). (“Deadstock” fabric refers to fabrics that are leftover from other company’s productions. Often this fabric is thrown away into landfill, especially if brands want to keep certain fabrics exclusive to their label).
Each of the gorgeous laces featured in the collection have been carefully hand cut to best showcase the beautiful design of the fabric, piece by piece. In addition to the range of soft laces, we used luxurious, high quality materials for this entire collection, including satin-finish elastic strapping, luxe gold-plated hardware, black satin bows and green Swarovski crystal beads. Each piece of lingerie is expertly crafted entirely by hand and the limited edition collection is one you won’t want to miss.
The collection is made using Karolina Laskowska’s expertly-developed patterns to create lingerie that makes you feel, and look, your very best. All styles are available in sizes UK 8-20, with many of the pieces featuring flexible sizing due to adjustable strapping. We wanted to be as inclusive as possible with sizes (taking into account that production is done by just one person, rather than a factory) and we were able to increase our range of sizes for this collection (compared to our first). As a result there are teeny tiny quantities of each size – the thing about deadstock fabrics is they’re very limited!
We believe in celebrating craftsmanship and working to create special pieces that will be treasured and loved for years. Rather than designing for a passing trend, we focus on making lingerie that will become a timeless favourite in your wardrobe.
The collection will first be released to Karolina’s Patreon subscribers and Vanyanís VIPs on 5-Nov-2023 and then publicly on 12-Nov-2023. Subscribers to either/both will get a week’s early access to this collection.

Behind the Scenes
Karolina and Lowana first met at the 2014 Oxford Conference of Corsetry where they instantly bonded over their shared love of corsets. Despite the distance of Europe and New Zealand they’ve managed to share many inspiring experiences together – visiting fashion exhibitions in Paris and England, and staying connected via the internet in between visits. In 2019 they decided to collaborate on a lingerie collection together (named “Sif”) and in November of that year Lowana traveled to Norway for two weeks so that they could design and make that collection together.
After the success of the first collection they decided to work together again on another, and thus ‘Sylvan’ was born. For this collection they worked via long distance (Lowana couldn’t travel due to family commitments). The design’s for this collection came about quite organically and were very much driven by the fabric. Karolina was able to source some ‘deadstock’ bridal lace which had a stunning lace design. We thought we were getting adequate meterage of that lace style, but when the fabric arrived it ended up being a bundle of multiple lace designs, with no one style being enough for an entire collection. Instead of looking for another option, we decided to dye the lace an enchanting shade of emerald green to tie it all together, and use the full range of laces within the one collection. Sometimes the best designs come about when you have limitations, as the “problem” we had with the lace purchase ended up being the best thing!
Karolina did all the cutting, sewing and dying of this fifteen piece collection by herself in her Oslo studio – an immense undertaking for one person. Once the collection was made, she sent it to Lowana who was in charge of hand finishing each piece with a single green Swarovski crystal bead. Lowana’s part of the workload also involved organizing all the photography, website admin, stock management and order dispatch/customer service. As Lowana has a small toddler, she finds working from a computer (currently) easier than working at a sewing machine, so this division of labor works well.
We modelled the first ‘Sif’ collection on ourselves, but for the second ‘Sylvan’ collection we wanted to showcase it on two new bodies. Lowana was able to connect with the models and photographer through her friendship with the Fanatic Burlesque team, and it all came together beautifully. Initially Lowana was planning on hiring a separate photography studio with a plain background, but after reaching out to Sylvie (of Little Noise Photography) it turned out that she had her own studio which just so happened to be painted the perfect shade of green… it was meant to be! Sylvie also had a set of foliage that added some lovely details and atmosphere to the background of the photos. Our two stunning models Maharani Movement and Whoopsie Daisy Burlesque did an incredible job of modeling the fifteen garments and looked absolutely perfect in each piece. The shoot was a fun, empowering day with lots of laughter, plenty of treats and pretty lace.
