Right: Vanyanís 'Aeryn' corset. ❓️Have you ever bought a corset expecting the waist on the right, but received the waist on the left?❓️ Most mass-made, "fashion" corsets are made from panels of fabric that are cut in a straight, rectangular shape. It's easier (and quicker) to sew straight seams, which is partly why this type of corset is so cheap (the real culprit for the low price is labour exploitation, but that's a topic for another day). If you want a defined waist, then the best option is a corset made from a pattern that is designed to shape your waistline. There isn't any one pattern or brand I can recommend, as the best pattern for you is one that is tailored to fit your unique body. The second best option is a corset with horizontal AND vertical measurements that closely match your body's measurements. When considering if a corset (or corset pattern) is right for you, make sure there's a size chart that lists the measurements you need so you can compare. Simply basing your corset size off of your waist measurement isn't enough, and it's unlikely that you'll achieve the shape you want. If you'd like to have a corset that shapes your figure like the 'Aeryn' corset does, then you're welcome to try the digital corset pattern I've developed (but don't skip making a mock-up!).
